“Greenhost” | SUSTAINABILTY: Living Wise

Hello guys,

Environmental related subject has become a widespread issue in the few decades. Start with global warming, illegal logging, ocean contamination, etc. This situation, of course, sparks a different kind of opinion and often this view lead to a particular movement such as improving a sustainability of resources or developing an eco-friendly product, but what if you could embody both in one entity ?! wouldn’t that great ?!

Located on Jalan Prawirotaman II No. 629, Mergangsan, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, Indonesia 55153 Greenhost (2014) is an eco-green boutique hotel with a dynamic space that combines casual hospitality with creative experience in design, art & crafts, and agricultural town field.

It is the first eco-friendly boutique hotel in Indonesia that offers modern amenities with a touch of local culture in a quiet and friendly environment. Its commitment to “eco-friendly matters that could be see from Its construction materials that include concrete made from fly ash, a byproduct of recycling and re-use materials such as wood, steel, iron. Not to mention that It also used environmentally sustainable building practice during Its construction that diverts debris from landfill disposal by redirecting recyclable material back to the manufacturing process.

Not to mention that It also used environmentally sustainable building practice during Its construction that diverts debris from landfill disposal by redirecting recyclable material back to the manufacturing process.

Of course, eco-friendly always related to sustainability. Thus, this boutique hotel approach to sustainability could be seen by their dedication and performance in six key areas of human and environmental health such as:

  • sustainable site development
  • water savings, energy efficiency
  • materials selection
  • indoor environmental quality, and
  • Innovation in design.

That has reduced operating costs and conserve their natural resources that could boost not only their surroundings but also their occupant’s health and productivity.

It is a beautiful place to stay, not only because It has a relaxing and refreshing atmosphere or unique eco-friendly and sustainable design concept, but also because It has a reasonable price. The only thing that that bother me is the fact that you could hear the small amount of noise when people were walking, talking or having a small talk in front of your room.

I almost forgot…This hotel didn’t include breakfast on their booking/reservation, but no need to worry because on the 1st floor and top floor of this hotels you could found a restaurant, not to mention there were a lot of food stall and local restaurant near Prawirotaman area.

About the restaurant and bar on the top floor, It is called “Agenda”, and start to operate from 17:00 p.m.- 24:00 a.m. if I’m not mistaken. It is an excellent place to hang out if you visited this places. I highly recommended you to try their super delicious Chocolate Lava Cake.

Overall I had a good time here, and I love how this hotel inspired Its residence to live wisely by valuing resources and sustaining energy. This hotel is such an inspiration and a good place to stay if you are visiting Jogja.
